Speaking and reading aloud

If you do not like typing, just say your question into the microphone, and KIplatz reads every answer aloud if you want. Both run on your PC.

From the microphone to the input field

  1. Click the microphone to the right of “Senden” (send). The first time, the program fetches its listening model, about 1 GB; you can see how far it has got.
  2. When it says “Bereit. Mikrofon drücken und sprechen.” (ready, press the microphone and speak), click and speak. The button is now red, and the seconds count along.
  3. Click the button once more. The recording ends, “Wird verstanden …” (being understood) shows briefly, then your text appears in the input field.
  4. Read it through, correct what does not fit, and send it. Nothing is sent on its own.

Tip

Started wrong? Esc discards a recording in progress. If you speak several times in a row, each piece is added to the end of the text in the field.

With a graphics card the program understands you in about a second; on the processor it takes a few seconds.

Only between your two clicks

QuestionHow it is
When does it listen?only between your first and second click, never in the background
How can you tell?the button glows red
How long at most?90 seconds, then the recording ends by itself and is processed
Where does the sound stay?on your PC; it is deleted after it has been understood
What goes to a server?nothing

That is why a long dictation is best spoken in pieces.

Having answers read aloud

  1. Under every answer there is a loudspeaker symbol. Press it.
  2. KIplatz reads it aloud with the Windows voice.
  3. If you press it again, it stops.

This also stays on your PC, without an account and without internet. KIplatz will also read the morning briefing aloud by itself every day if you want.

Good to know

How the program handles microphone and sound is also described under Privacy and Safety.
