The big AI providers live off your data. We do not. We show that it also works without your data and without a data center. That is why we store as little as possible. What happens to your questions, in the program and in the app, is described in detail in the separate privacy policy.
In short
No ads, no trackers, no connection to Google or social networks. We count page views without knowing who you are. No other member sees your email address. Everything runs on our server in Vienna.
Who is responsible
Philipp Rainer, Oberweis 16, 4664 Laakirchen, Austria, p.rainer@kiplatz.at (see legal notice). Philipp Rainer is personally responsible for data protection. Our server and our emails are with IPAX GmbH in Vienna, with which we have a data processing agreement.
When you visit the website
We count every page view without the internet address: which page, phone or PC, roughly which browser, which country and where the click came from. After 2 days only daily totals remain (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
The page fetches figures such as the leaderboard from our server. These requests stay in the log for 7 days, with a shortened internet address. An error log with the address exists only during faults and is gone after 14 days.
The website sets no cookies. Only if you choose light or dark in your account does your browser remember this in a small cookie, without an identifier.
Your KIplatz account
For your account we store your email address, display name, if you want a profile picture, and a check value of your password, never the password itself. Other members never see your email address. You delete your account yourself in the account menu under "Delete account". What you wrote, in the forum and in the workshop, stays without your name: name, picture, email address and profile are gone, so that the knowledge is preserved for everyone. If you want individual posts removed completely, you delete them yourself beforehand or write to us (Art. 6(1)(b), Art. 17 GDPR). When you create an account, we send you a welcome email once with a few tips for getting started. Once your account is deleted, we send you a last email as confirmation. If we block or delete an account because of a violation, you receive the reason and the way to appeal by email (Art. 17 of the EU Digital Services Act). We use your address only for these emails, never for advertising, and our service writes it into no log.
Leaderboard and teams. The leaderboard shows the figures of your devices: answered questions, sections, credits. Others see your display name there only if you tick "Show my name in the leaderboard"; otherwise it shows "Member" with four characters (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). If you create a team or join one, we store in your account which team you are in. Everyone sees the team name, the number of members and the total work; members are shown by name only if they have ticked the box (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). You can untick the box and leave the team at any time; when you delete your account, both are gone immediately.
If you sign in with Google or GitHub, they learn about it and send us your name, email address and profile picture. What they do with it is described in the privacy policies of Google and GitHub (German). If you do not want that, use an email address and password.
The KIplatz app
The KIplatz app is available for Android, later also for the iPhone. This section applies to both. The app connects only to our server kiplatz.at in Vienna, always encrypted. It has no advertising, no advertising ID, no tracking pixels and no third-party components that collect data or send crash reports.
Signing in. You need a KIplatz account for the app (see above). When you sign in, your phone receives its own key. Our server then knows the ID of your account, your display name, the name you give your phone and the day it was last active. The app never sees your email address or your password (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
Your questions and conversations. Your conversations are on your phone. A question is answered by a member's PC. It sees only the question, not who you are. On the server it stays until the answer is there, 24 hours at most. General knowledge questions and their checked answers we keep encrypted and without names, and KIplatz learns from them; questions about yourself never (details in the privacy policy on the questions). Your conversations on all your devices exist only if you switch this on. Then they are stored end-to-end encrypted on the server, and only your devices can read them.
Location, only if you switch it on. If you have switched on "Location for weather questions" in the settings and ask about the weather, your phone first asks you for permission. Then the app rounds the approximate location to about 1 km and sends it to our server. The server looks up the place name at OpenStreetMap (OpenStreetMap Foundation, United Kingdom) without naming your phone or your account. It writes the location into no log. It remembers only "rounded location, place name" in working memory so that it does not have to ask twice. Only the place name goes into your question. You can switch this off at any time in the app or in your phone's settings (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
Microphone. The microphone runs only between two taps, 90 seconds at most. Your phone understands you itself. The audio never leaves it and is deleted afterwards.
Camera. The camera runs only after a tap on "Scan QR code with the camera", to connect your phone with your PC at home. The images are read only on the phone, never stored and never sent.
Photos and files. If you attach a photo or a file, the app reads the text from it on the phone. Only this text goes with your question; the file stays with you.
Thumbs and reports. We count your thumbs without your name. If you report an answer, we see the answer and your reason. Feedback is deleted after 90 days.
Delete everything. In the app you tap "Delete account" in the settings; without the app it works at kiplatz.at/app/#konto-loeschen. Then your account, your signed-in devices and your encrypted conversations are gone from the server. The conversations on the phone disappear when you delete the app. Everything is gone from our backups after 30 days at the latest.
Age. KIplatz is for adults. Under 14 only with the consent of the parents. Answers are written by an AI. They can be wrong and do not replace a doctor or professional advice.
Forum and workshop
The forum (forum.kiplatz.at) and the workshop (werkstatt.kiplatz.at) run on our server. They set only cookies that are necessary for signing in. Your posts and your display name are publicly readable. To prevent abuse, we remember the internet address when you sign in and write (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR).
If you tick "Thanks with name" in a report, we name your display name in "New in the program" when your report is implemented. This happens only with this tick; you can withdraw it at any time with one line to support@kiplatz.at (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
Trial question, contact and support
A trial question without an account is answered by a member's PC and is gone afterwards. Do not write anything personal in it.
If you write to us via the contact form, we use name and email address only for the reply. A copy stays on the server for 30 days at most.
If you support us with money, you pay via Stripe (Stripe Payments Europe, Dublin). We see name, email address, amount and date, never your card data. How Stripe handles your data is described in the privacy policy of Stripe. You can end this yourself on the page Support us.
Backups
Every day we make an encrypted backup. It stays for 30 days at most, after which even deleted data is gone from it.
Your rights
You can request information, correction or deletion at any time and object (Art. 21 GDPR). A short message to p.rainer@kiplatz.at is enough. In the program, "What the server knows about this device" shows everything about your device, and "Leave the community" deletes it immediately. You can lodge a complaint with the Austrian Data Protection Authority (Datenschutzbehörde), dsb.gv.at.
As of 4 October 2026.
