How good are the answers?

As good as their sources, and it shows you. Under every answer are the passages it came from, and every sentence carries a traffic light: green from a source, yellow a conclusion, red without evidence. What KIplatz does not know, it says instead of making something up.

Where an answer comes from

Your question first goes to the community's shared knowledge: sections from sources with a clear licence, for example the featured articles of the German Wikipedia, and everything members have looked up for everyone. The best excerpts go to the model together with the question; the answer is meant to come from them. If you ask for weather or headlines, the computer looks them up and remembers the result for everyone, with an expiry date. If nobody knows an answer, it searches the web and tells you that it did.

The traffic light under every sentence

After the answer, the program compares every sentence with the excerpts: words that appear there make the sentence green; a sentence that only concludes turns yellow; a sentence with no backing in the sources turns red. That is a word comparison, not a truth check, and the details of the answer say so. Red sentences are the reason to look again.

Checked by a second device

For many sections a community device has already written a summary with questions and answers, and a second device has checked it. If one of those questions matches yours, its answer comes first, marked "checked by a second device". The members' computers do this work while they have nothing else to do.

The models

KIplatz answers with Ministral 3 by Mistral (3 or 8 billion parameters, depending on the graphics card; freely licensed under Apache 2.0) and searches with an embedding model by Qwen. Both run on members' computers, not at a provider. They are smaller than the big providers' models and know less by heart; in return they get the sources, and you see how much of them is in the answer.

Under "Details of the answer"

Every answer has a fold-out: where the excerpts come from, how many sentences are green, yellow and red, which device computed and for how long, and what it cost in credits. If another member computed for you, their device name is shown, nothing more.

What is not good yet

For general knowledge that is in no source, KIplatz sometimes answers too cautiously with "that is not in the excerpts". The traffic light knows no irony and checks no numbers. An example answer will appear on this page as soon as we may show one that does not come from ourselves. The program answers in German for now.
