Is this safe for my computer?

Yes, and you can check it yourself. The program reads none of your files, never switches on camera or microphone by itself, and computes only while you have it switched on. Every connection your computer opens is listed in the program under "What leaves my computer".

What is yours stays on your computer

• No cryptocurrency, no mining, no tokens. Credits are numbers in your account, nothing you can buy or sell.
• No access to your files. Only what you drag into a conversation yourself is read, and it stays on the device.
• Nothing runs in the background without your knowledge. The icon next to the clock shows whether the computer is working. Stop means stop.
• The microphone runs only between two clicks on the microphone symbol, 90 seconds at most, visibly red. The audio stays on the device and is deleted after it has been understood.
• No administrator rights. The program installs into your user folder and can be removed again under Settings.
• Your limits apply: processor share, pause, and on battery it does not work for others. It works only within what you allow.
• Your memory stays with you. What you tell KIplatz with "remember this" is a file on your device, never on the server.

The server in Vienna knows your device, not you

You need no account, no e-mail address and no real name to take part. Your device gets a random identifier; the server stores only a check value of it. What others see is the name you give your device. The server keeps a question only until the answer has been collected, then deletes it.

When another computer answers your question, it does not learn who asked: no name, no address, no location. The server removes e-mail addresses, phone numbers and account numbers from the text beforehand. The log kept against abuse holds the internet address shortened and is deleted after 7 days. There is no advertising, no tracking pixel and no analytics service. "Stored on the server" in the program shows everything the server holds about your device, and "Leave" deletes it at once.

A question reaches outside services only when it asks for them

If you ask about the weather, the answering computer fetches it from Open-Meteo, with the place name, without you. Headlines come from the news feed of the ORF, the Austrian public broadcaster. If the community does not know an answer, the computer searches DuckDuckGo and reads Wikipedia or the page it found. Everything else stays with us. Since 18 September 2026 the wording of your question is no longer kept in the shared memory, only a check value.

Updates are signed

The program runs on the signed Python from python.org; the ZIP has a checksum you can compare. Every update carries a signature from our server (Ed25519, a method with a private key that never leaves the server). An update without a valid signature is not installed.

No program can recognise names inside a question

If you write "my son Max from Graz" into a question, that is what the question contains. Do not put names, addresses or passwords into a question that do not belong there. We send mail through a provider (IPAX in Vienna) and get certificates from Let's Encrypt. The word filter behind the house rules catches the crude cases and sometimes too much. Wherever something is not verified, it says so.
