Ask on your phone

On your phone or tablet, you open KIplatz in the browser at kiplatz.at/app and put it on the home screen. This already works today on iPhone and Android; the app will be in the App Store and on Google Play soon.

From the browser to the home screen

  1. Open kiplatz.at/app in the browser.
  2. Put it on the home screen: on the iPhone in Safari “Share”, then “Add to Home Screen”; on an Android phone in Chrome the menu ⋮, then “Add to Home screen”.
  3. Open KIplatz via the new icon and tap “Mit KIplatz-Konto anmelden” (sign in with KIplatz account). It is the same account as in the forum and the workshop; if you do not have one yet, you create it there.
  4. At the end, the app asks what it may call you and where you live. Both are optional and stay with you.

Careful

On the iPhone, it is best to sign in only once KIplatz is already on the home screen. Then the sign-in stays in the app.

Under “Anders anmelden” (sign in another way) you can also sign in with a code from the KIplatz program on your PC or with a sign-in link. You copy the link on a device where you are already signed in, under “Konto und Einstellungen” (account and settings), “Dieses Gerät” (this device). It is valid for 10 minutes and only once, so keep it to yourself. Other members can see the device name you enter there.

Asking on the go

Your answer is worked out by a free PC in the community, without your name. Your conversations are stored on this device; if you switch on “Gespräche auf allen Geräten” (conversations on all devices), they travel along encrypted.

If you ask about the weather without a place, KIplatz uses your place of residence. The app only uses your location if you switch it on yourself under “Datenschutz” (privacy).

Tip

The PC that answers a question reads it. So do not write anything into it that a stranger among the members should not read. What the server knows about you is shown under “Meine Daten” (my data) in “Konto und Einstellungen”.

Ask your home: your files from the PC at home

The invoice or the photo is at home on your PC, and you are out? Then just ask as usual, for example “Where is my job application?”. Your PC at home searches your folders and shows you the matching files. This works without a cloud: nothing is uploaded beforehand, and a file travels only encrypted and only when you fetch it.

  1. On the PC, open “Meine Community” (my community), then “Frag dein Zuhause” (ask your home), and click “Handy oder Laptop dazunehmen” (add phone or laptop).
  2. In the app, tap “Konto und Einstellungen”, “Mein Zuhause” (my home) and “QR-Code mit der Kamera scannen” (scan QR code with the camera). You can also type the code in.
  3. Tap the plus next to the input field, then “In meinen Dateien suchen” (search my files), and ask your question. It stays on in this conversation until you switch it off again.
  4. Tick what you need, tap “Aufs Handy holen” (fetch to the phone) and then “Sichern oder teilen” (save or share).

The PC at home has to be switched on and online for this. More under get your files from anywhere.

At home: one PC for your Windows devices

You pair a strong PC and a weaker notebook over your own Wi-Fi.

  1. On the PC, under “Einstellungen”, open the box “Für Bastler: KIplatz im Heimnetz” (for tinkerers: KIplatz in the home network), click “Im Heimnetz anbieten” (offer in the home network) and then “Gerät koppeln” (pair device). It shows a device name and a code.
  2. On the notebook, type in both in the same box and click “Koppeln” (pair).
  3. There, under “Wer beantwortet deine Fragen?” (who answers your questions?), set “Das andere Gerät” (the other device).

After that, the PC answers the notebook's questions encrypted, and nothing leaves the house. On the account: create an account and sign in.
