Ask about selected text
A paragraph in an email, a sentence on a website, a line in a contract: you select it, press 2 keys, and it is already in KIplatz's input field.
From selecting to asking
- In any program, select the passage you mean, for example in the browser, in an email or in a word processor.
- Press Ctrl + Space.
- The KIplatz window comes to the front. Your selection appears in quotation marks in the input field, and the cursor is already waiting there.
- Add your question, for example “What does that mean in plain English?”, and send it.
Tip
Without a selection, the same key combination just brings the window to the front, from anywhere. KIplatz has to be running for this; hidden next to the clock is enough.
Your clipboard stays as it was
To take over the selection, the program briefly copies it itself and then puts back whatever was on the clipboard before. It reads only at the moment you press the keys, never before and never after. Up to 4000 characters are taken over.
Only when you send it does it become a question like any other. How it is answered is described under How the AI answers.
The switch under Settings
- Click “Einstellungen” (settings) on the left.
- Find the section headed “Strg + Leertaste” (Ctrl + Space).
- The switch “Markierten Text aus dem Programm davor ins Eingabefeld übernehmen” (take over the selected text from the previous program into the input field) is on from the start. If you switch it off, the combination only brings the window to the front.
Careful
If another program on your PC has already reserved these keys, KIplatz keeps running without the shortcut. Everything else in the window works as usual.
